Afro Jazz Giants Hip Hop Tribute

Multidisciplinary artist and musician, Nthato Mokgata aka Spoek Mathambo will present a dynamic audio-visual show conceived from his long standing love affairs with Hip-Hop and South African Jazz. The rapper/producer has created Afro Jazz Giants as a celebration and tribute project to explore the South African Jazz songbook while creating new conversations around “classics” and “standards”, as well introducing the canon to first-time listeners. Mathambo says “We hope to breathe new life into the brilliant ideas of some of South Africa’s greatest composers, improvisers and instrumentalists”. Saxophonist, flautist and bandleader Banele Bucks Nkosi will lead the Afro Jazz Giants band, which will also be joined by guests such as Ghanaian percussion master Kojo Lion, multi-instrumentalist MC Laliboi and performer/musician Carla Fonseca.
