RAW Fellow, Nashilongweshipwe Mushaandja, talks about his live art practice with Ruth Simbao, Boudina McConnachie and Elijah Madiba.
Nashilongweshipwe Mushaandja is a performer, educator and writer with practice-research interests in archives and public culture, critical pedagogy, queer praxis, and movement formation. In July 2021 he was hosted by the Arts of Africa and Global Souths research programme as a RAW Artist in Residence, and collaborated with the International Library of African Music (ILAM).
In conversation with Ruth Simbao (Head of Arts of Africa and Global Souths), Boudina McConnachie (ILAM) and Elijah Madiba (LAM), he discusses his practice, including his recent PhD performance project, Ondaanisa yo pOmudhime (Dance of the Rubber Tree). Ondaanisa yo pOmudhime is a queer intervention practiced through Oudano, an African concept of performance.
