ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Viwe Madinda is a South African visual artist and Master of Fine Art (MFA) candidate at Rhodes University. She holds a bachelor of Fine Art degree (with distinction) from Rhodes University, and is part of the National Research Foundation SARChl programme and the Arts of Africa and Global Souths research team. Madinda works in multidisciplinary ways, using installation, sculpture, sound design, performance and photography to explore themes of African spirituality and Isintu in relation to post-colonial identity and reality.

Juanito Featherstone is a multidisciplinary artist, born and raised in Makanda. He is currently studying at Rhodes University for a Master of Fine Art degree, and is part of the National Research Foundation SARChl programme and the Arts of Africa and Global Souths research team. His work explores the complexities of identities viewed through different lenses. It is inspired by personal experiences, and often depicts a personal narrative in relation to broader social contexts. His work also draws on fashion, exploring how it informs identities. He adopts an experimental and intuitive approach in his artistic process and his creative expressions.
