BENJAMIN JEPHTA – Born Coloured, Not Born Free

In ‘Born Coloured: not ‘Born-free’ Benjamin Jephta dissects his experience as a so-called ‘Coloured’ and creates music centred around themes important to upbringing and cultural identity.

The music forms part of his final presentation for his Master’s degree at the Berklee Global Jazz Institute in Boston, US, the world’s leading jazz institution. The aim of the music “is to bring awareness, inspire and create a sense of hope, empowerment and unity within the South African experience.”

And he harnesses as band members some star South African jazz power to do so!
