Amitabh Mitra has experimented in fusing two-line poems with his seascapes. A medical doctor in Emergency Medicine with a special interest in Trauma and Gender-Based Violence, he has been working at Cecelia Makiwane Hospital in the township of Mdantsane, Eastern Cape, South Africa since 1994. Extensively published on the web and print, his co-edited book with Naomi Nkeslah, Splinters of a Mirage Dawn, an anthology of Migrant Poetry of South Africa, was shortlisted for the prestigious Humanities and Social Sciences Award at Johannesburg. He has held many solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions. He represented South Africa at the World Literature Festival in Oslo in 2008.
