“In a multicultural society, identity is complex. Below the surface, many slip into a depressing struggle to understand identity and purpose. In the world of Spirit, where ancestors and love provide inspiration and empowerment, individuals come to understand that individual identity includes freedom of choice. To know and understand the self through collective and individual expression, is true freedom. Desert Flowers, choreographed by Linda Vargas, is a reworking of the much-acclaimed 2004 production of the same name for the 35 year anniversary celebrations of the Linda Vargas Flamenco Dance Company in July 2018. Featuring special guests, including Flatfoot Dance Company, it brings together a range of dancers and musicians in a work that particularly locates Flamenco dancing and rhythm within the South African context. With a compelling score arranged and composed by Demi Fernandez, it features musicians Neil Gonsalves, Martin Sigamoney and Bryan Stone.
This video is presented in aid of raising funds for our home province of KZN Dance Teachers who have (and will continue to have) their income affected by COVID-19.”
