Earth Stories

Earth Stories is a collection of dance treasures filmed in majestic nature locations in South Africa.

This short film is an intricate and beautifully told story of the nature of existence. It reviews the polarity between wholeness and fragmentation by weaving together music, dance and storytelling. It strikes at the essence of what it means to be human, connected with all that is. Selah’s deep yet light-hearted approach makes for an appetising and nourishing adventure, touching the senses with food for embodied thought.

As a full-time performer, in 2020 Selah found herself no longer able to perform for live audiences. She went to live in the deep forest to ‘discover her true nature.’ She ended up discovering that performing for the trees didn’t pay much, kitchen sinks are highly under-rated, and when you see someone’s heart you are actually seeing your own. And so Earth Stories was born.

This is Nature Theatre – artists whose expression is inspired by, and in honour of, the land they are co-creating with. Selah Joy
With a rich and diverse background in the performance arts, Selah loves what she does. Originally trained as a classical dancer (RAD Advanced 2 – Distinction), Selah has since devoted her time to contemporary dance, the circus arts (fire and flowarts, basic acrobatics and aerial silks), yoga, butoh and improvisation theatre. Performing since the age of 8, she feels comfortable to be witnessed in her expression and is grateful to have had the experience of giving shows accross South Africa, and internationally in Holland, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Canada, Namibia, Mauritius, Seychelles and the Azores. Highlight performances include TedX CT; Baxter Dance Festival; Klein Karoo Nationale Kunstefees; Boom Festival; Afrikaburn and the European Juggling Convention.

Selah is fascinated by the idea of being a channel for Nature and the unseen forces of Being. She carries within her art the intention of radiance, wholeness and healing, to bring together diversity through equality. Her desire is to continue collaborating with artists who share their love through their expression in a way that supports the evolution of this Earth and Humanity. Selah is passionate about embodiment; curious about the alchemical union of the physical and the unseen; inspired by nature; receptive to what is, and active in creating joyful life.

Selah also teaches and facilitates, dabbles in music and singing, enjoys writing, draws and paints, creates beautiful meals and goes on epic adventures.
