Ekhaya.

Music / Beethoven Room

Ekhaya is a facilitated performance held by Pertunia Msani using music and sound to tell stories. It is an interactive experience during which the audience is encouraged to share any feelings, experiences and most importantly stories about ‘Ekhaya’ – home.

We have observed how, particularly for black/african and brown people globally, there seem to be multiple connection points. We are united by more than just our skin colour and curly hair. Perhaps the thing we need to do as black people is to sit down and speak about why we show up in the world the way we do. Perhaps it is time we spoke about our traumas, in particular those that stem from our homes and families. Perhaps it is time to celebrate our victories, our uniqueness and strength as a people.

Pertunia works in collaboration with her voice, the audience and their stories to weave these into a beautiful sound. No matter who you are or where you come from, your story will be held in Pertunia’s voice. This is an embrace which reaches through each person in the room. It is a call to see ourselves and for us to be seen.

Please note that this is a Rhodes University venue and as such you will be required to show your vaccine certificate or a negative test no older than 72 hours or proof of Covid positive status within the last three months.
