Ekitchini Moments in Time

Ekitchini is an intergenerational, musical, storytelling experience where the contours of life, loss, and the love of music are travelled and celebrated. It is an interactive live concert of visuals and audio with original music derived from the featured artists’ respective debut albums.

The featured artists are Sally Mogoje, Milly Thyne, Busisiwe Mothelesi, Asanda Tonjeni, and Kenalemang Picoagae. They share daily life experiences from love to betrayal to GBV and more, through a combination of music, storytelling, laughter and food.

The show was commissioned by the Northern Cape Theatre in 2021 where it debuted.

It is directed by the world-renowned director Mr. Mkhululi Mabija. It is choreographed by award-winning choreographer and dancer Mr. Bisi Bangiwe and the music is produced and directed by an award-winning producer, Mr. Tebogo Matsie of the Stimpa Sound Studio.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Kenalemang Picoagae is not new to the musical scene. Her musical journey started about 30 years ago with her involvement in choirs. She has done backing vocals for numerous gospel acts such as Nako Mohale and Gomolemo Grace amongst others. Kenalemang has recorded her yet to be released and untitled Afro Pop album under the musical direction of Tebogo Matsie. She is a well grounded and professional performer and singer.

Mmaditsela African Rhythms:
This group comprises four young ladies, namely: Asanda Tonjeni, Millee Thyne, Busisiwe Mothelesi and Sally Mogoje. The group does Afro Rhythmic which is a combination of mbaqanga, simanjemanje, famo and African celebratory songs. They are backed by a band to complement their music for purposes of live performances. Mmaditsela as it is affectionately known, recently recorded their soon to be released album going by the name Tsila-Tsila, and they filmed a music video of the song. This group is a force to reckon with.
