ABOUT THE ARTISTS
A Cape Music Institute Alum where she received a diploma in vocals and music business, won the Open Mic Jazz competition hosted at Grandwest in 2012 had the opportunity to perform at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival. She has worked hard to cement her place in the music industry. She has been dubbed as a smooth velvety warm and sultry voice.
Singing for her started at home. Her love for music and singing has always run in her family. “We would get together as a family. Sing hymns together. We could cater for every voice from soprano, to bass to alto to tenor. And music was just something that connected with me. This passion I have for music, it really comes from my heart, from my soul. I sing and perform from a place of knowing how much I love music.”
Candice performs mostly cover versions of jazz songs, pop, disco, R&B and ballades. And collaborated on a duet called “Reason To Smile” with Cape jazz artist Jonathan Rubain. A song about how people often put on a brave face and smile even though they may be hurting on the inside.
In 2015 Candice Thornton co wrote a smash with Chad Saaiman called “Superhero” under the Stereotype Records lable.
After the release of Superhero, Candice then collaborated with Dj Lance Theron to make a Hit dance track called “Higher” where she crossed over to the EDM market. The collaboration worked and it was one of the played songs on radio stations like HeartFm&GoodhopeFm.
After the success Candice then partnered up with 2 other Full time female musicians to form the group “The Monroe’s”.The all girl group was formed into 2016/2017 where they hosted two shows and featured at the DSTV Mitchell’s Plain festival in 2018.
In 2017 she then Headlined at GrandArena, sharing the stage with Judy Boucher, Alistair Izobel, Nur Abrahams etc
She was then asked to join Mitchell’s Plain Music Academy as their resident vocal coach, and has been working at the academy coaching people of the community of all ages.
Candice Thornton and Jonathan Rubain then reunited in 2017/2018 to collaborate on another song called ” I am me”. Released on all radio stations two months before having a two month run at Baxter theatre called “Cape Jazz is lekke”. Sharing the stage with legendary Hilton Schilder, Dave Ledbetter, Ernie Smith. On that stage Candice paid homage to Vicky Sampson doing her own version of “African Dream”, receiving standing ovations almost every night.
Candice Thornton now focuses on making her dream of having own album a reality. And pushes forward in the industry as a sol artist, full time session musician as well as Vocal Coaching.
