It is spoken word, a poet with an instrumentalist, the guitar, keyboard and percussion, Simbone is a multi-talented poet, telling stories that anyone can relate to. There is a story amongst the list of poems in the showcased work, which deals with gender-based violence, women abuse and domestic violence – predicaments that we currently face in our society. The story is titled Nomaxabiso ZIta, and is about a who woman who got tired of being abused daily, and retaliated, ended up committing murder. There is a Nomaxabiso Zita all over the world; someone who is silent about ill treatment and abuse, because no one will believe her, or because of the processes of our justice system. There is also the story of Gayoyo, a guy who is about to commit suicide, he is depressed, unemployed, alone, with no one to talk to. This poem is a motivational story, uplifting us in our darkest moment, encouraging the ability to rise up and shine in those situations. The last one is Egoli a poem/song of hope as well encouraging one not to give up on his or her dreams. Each story is well written and well performed and will take the audience on a journey, as the poet’s choice of words is amazing and the tantantilisifng voice combined with lead guitar and keys are healing.
