Students of Rhodes University Chamber Choir combine forces with the KWANTU Community Choir to bring you a collaborative concert of Hope, Healing and Restoration.

The programme selected is centred around themes of light, comfort, peace and glory, speaking directly to the pain, loss and grief which the past year has brought onto people. It includes works by Jake Runestad, Paweł Łukaszewski, Moses Hoga, Msaki, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Buhlebendalo, among others.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

RU Chamber Choir is Rhodes University’s official choir, consisting of 20+ members. As one of the oldest university chamber choir in the country, it has grown a reputation of displaying vibrant and fine performances of wide-ranging choral works, and the 2021 choir continues this legacy. RUCC delivers a diverse and entertaining repertoire of choral music, including works from South African composers such as AJ Bethke and Peter Klatzow, several traditional vocal arrangements, and works in the Western Art canon from composers such as Moses Hogan and Rachmaninov, among others.

KWANTU choir is a community choir that includes learners from Rhodes and local schools and general community singers of Makhanda. It prides itself on being a choral ambassador for the town. It has represented the town on National and International Festivals such as the Choral Celebration Festival, National Arts Festival, and World Choir Games. Currently, it is under the direction of Kutlwano Kepadisa.
