Marikana 10 Years On | Marikana and the Law

Participants include Constitutional Court Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga* (who was Chief Evidence Leader at the Marikana Commission before being appointed to the apex court) who will deliver a key-note address. Responses will be offered by Advocate Ngcukaitobi (author of The Land is Ours and Land Matters and Legal Resource Centre counsel at Marikana), Nomzamo Zondo (executive director at the Socio-Economic Rights Institute, which represented 37 of the 44 families at the Marikana Commission) and Advocate Michelle Le Roux (author of LawFare and representative of the SAHRC at Marikana Commission). A discussion that centres on the role of the law and the Marikana Commission in locating the truth about what happened at the Marikana massacre and in the restoration of justice for those most affected and the communities from whence they came.
