Matchbox Double bill:

1. Jikijela
Three friends, seek justice for crimes committed against them because of their sexuality and gender expression. The play is about three young adults who are part of the LGBTQA++ Community, and live together in the township. They have all experienced violence of a curative nature because of their gender expression or sexual orientation, which has left them traumatized and angry. One of them still believes in the power of the South African constitution, which is liberal, and the other two want to ‘cure’ the world off the perpetrators, by serving justice by themselves, for themselves. This has disastrous consequences for all involved.

2. What do you think the birds are doing?
Set in a post-apocalypse wasteland, Beatrice and Jojo, live out the disaster in their claustrophobic bunker. When their home is compromised by the appearance of a rat in their kitchen, they realise that they will have to confront their fears and do something about it. While fending off their home and precious few resources from their rodent-invader, Beatrice begins to wonder about the possibility of leaving their home in search of something more out there. An original play about hope and fear and trying to be human in the face of it all.
