Mma Weee! is a dance production that seeks to raise awareness against the ongoing and increasing violence and abuse of children in South Africa. The work responds to the sky rise of horrific child abuse cases that are reported daily in South Africa. Inspired by the Nicholas Ninow (Dros Rapist) case, where a 7-year-old was raped a few meters away from her mother’s sight in a public bathroom. The production seeks to interrogate the state of mind of child sex abusers and furthermore questions whether, given widespread research, most abusers have themselves been abused previously and the permanent effects thereof? At the core of the piece is the question, who do we baby sit – children or abusive men?
