This exhibition sees Peter Midlane continue his exploration of his immediate and extended environment. This has been an ongoing interest stretching back 35 years. His landscape paintings reveal his affinity with this environment, it’s textures, smells, colours and atmosphere. The recent work hinges around recent roadtrips through his favourite areas.

Peter studied Fine Art at Rhodes University and graduated with a distinction in Painting in 1977.

He taught Painting , Print Making and Art History between 1979 and 2005 while practising as a professional artist.

He has painted and etched full time since 2006.

His paintings are mostly Eastern Cape and Karoo landscapes, exploring the structure, colours and textures as well as the marks of man on the land.

His etchings explore anecdote, history, social comment and satire, through the use of line and strong tone. Small editions of prints, usually 20, are made.

His work is mostly in private collections, but also some public collections.
