The Parel Vallei Big Band and the PV Street Band are conducted by Duncan Combe, and have been an active part of the Parel Vallei Music Department and regulars at the National Youth Jazz Festival for decades. They have built up a repertoire of two hours with the flexibility to entertain with everything from Glen Miller to a New York subway style, 10-piece street band.
The Rondebosch Jazz Band, conducted by Terrence Scarr, has an impressive reputation in a dynamic music department which boasts around 150 students. Many of its members have been selected for the National School’s Jazz Band over the years and many former members of the band now study music locally and abroad, while some alumni have become active professionals in the music world. The band has a repertoire that has a mix of standard big band charts alongside arrangements of South African jazz.
