The seeds of history are sown deep in our minds and hearts; deep in our bodies; they form thick layers under our skins. What parts of this history stay with us and what leaves us? How do we share our histories with those we love, hate and live amongst? This work explores the existence of a seed whose history begins in a Dutch Kitchen. She goes in search of a belonging that stretches beyond race or culture while being haunted by South Africa’s History. Not quite the right seed. Not quite belonging, in a country where everything is about where you belong, what race, what tribe, what socio economic background you come from. What does it mean to not belong in a history based on belonging? To be neither here nor there?
