S’bane, an all-women quartet consisting of four voices in barbershop voice style, has decided to honour our fallen and living legends of music, by putting a repertoire that comprises of acapella renditions of some of the greatest vernacular South African records.
The vision of the S’bane ensemble is to shed light on both the fallen and living female veterans of the jazz and pop culture of South Africa and beyond. It is imperative to us that their legacies are reinvented and continued through well-arranged acapella arrangements. S’bane is a deliberate formation of a four-part harmony female quartet that has the conventional SATB vocal structure with the aim of intriguing audiences with tributes we used to dance and sing along to in the present and in the past.
Acapella music is dominated by males as they are able to sing the wide range needed to make ear-pleasing chords, however, the ladies have taken it upon themselves to change this status quo. Female acapella will be given the light that it deserves.
