S’bane, an all-women quartet consisting of four voices in barbershop voice style, has decided to honour our fallen and living legends of music, by putting a repertoire that comprises of acapella renditions of some of the greatest vernacular South African records.

The vision of the S’bane ensemble is to shed light on both the fallen and living female veterans of the jazz and pop culture of South Africa and beyond. It is imperative to us that their legacies are reinvented and continued through well-arranged acapella arrangements. S’bane is a deliberate formation of a four-part harmony female quartet that has the conventional SATB vocal structure with the aim of intriguing audiences with tributes we used to dance and sing along to in the present and in the past.

Acapella music is dominated by males as they are able to sing the wide range needed to make ear-pleasing chords, however, the ladies have taken it upon themselves to change this status quo. Female acapella will be given the light that it deserves.

Ntlantla Swana is a Multi-instrumentalist (Recorder, Alto Saxophone, and Piano) and led all musical groups in high school and received Honours Award for Music. She represented South Africa in Cleveland, Tennessee and was awarded runner up position for the keyboard section and graduated with a BMus Degree from Nelson Mandela University. Ntlantla has worked in entertainment production in Turkey

Motswedi Modiba’s professional music career started at 9 years old and of her many accolades, she won a scholarship to study at Pretoria Chinese School. She graduated from the University of Witwatersrand in 2020 with BMus: Jazz Major Cum Laude. She received a scholarship to study at the Manhattan School of Music for her Master’s Degree.

Viwo Kulati was exposed to jazz music at a very young age and graduated with a BMus degree from the University of Witwatersrand. She performed on the Dakawa Jazz Festival Stage in Makanda and was one of the Top 3 in the Kaya FM and Emirates Pursuit of Jazz Competition. Viwo worked in entertainment production in Turkey,

Siyasanga Koyo started her music career in church with a group called Vocal Blend with which she recorded two albums. She started her solo career as a prominent backing vocalist working with many national artists such as; Vusi Nova, Nathi Mankayi, Putuma Tiso and many more. She has graced many big stages during her decades of work in the industry. She was offered a job in entertainment in Turkey, however, Covid-19 prohibited the start of this contract

As you can see, individually, the ladies are powerhouses. But together, expect FIREWORKS. S’bane is a beautiful package of excellence, professionalism, presentation and FUN.
