Tackling Societal Issues Through Art

Music  /  Spoken Word / City Hall

Tackling Societal Issues Through Art addresses untold stories and gives voice to the voiceless, through soulful music and poetry. It tackles issues that include gender based violence, racism, depression, romance and religion.
The music and poetry includes:
Qamata – a prayer that every artist utters, to be granted a break to showcase giftedness and to be guided throughout their journey.
Nkos’ubusazi – confronting society on issues like racism, sexism and other social injustices.
Ityala – condemning men who resort to GBV and expressing how it feels to be a woman in this country, with all the traumas that women go through.
Literary Tapestry – embracing literature and highlighting the value of all our stories.
Ndicel’ube ngowam – a love song where one expresses deep romantic and emotional connections in an attempt to win another’s heart.
Mapaseka – exploring the questions and emotional trauma one has after a breakup.
Ndamkeleni – this song is about acceptance and respect for artists in our society.
My Power – this poem speaks to the power that lies within us that can make the impossible possible. We must never underestimate our abilities.
Masibuy’embo – a song that takes us back to our native roots, and reminds us that we are the Sons and Daughters of the African soil.
