ABOUT THE ARTISTS
After leaving the Waterfront Theatre School Lucy began her performing career at a Hilton Hotel in China. Thereafter she came home to work for The Barnyard Theatre in tribute shows such as Dancing Queen, Hollywood Rocks and Glory Days. She has also worked with the Mike McCully Band and still performs regularly with them in the group Mike & the Harmonix. Lucy joined forces with FollowSpot Productions where she co-wrote and starred in her one-woman show Absolucy directed by Alex Tops which successfully debuted at the Grahamstown National Arts Festival. She has also performed in a variety of FollowSpot’s popular shows such as Big Girls, Face The Music and Another Day. Lucy performed in Soul Classics’ Black Ties & Friends at the Baxter Theatre, the Fugard Theatre’s The Rocky Horror Show, a tribute show Stealing The Show: Bette Midler written by Jon Keevy and directed by Garth Tavares, Ganarama’s Back To School Boogie at the Artscape Theatre and the musical romance Bar None, Another Day, as well as Bon Soir (Kalk Bay Theatre, NAF 2016 and Perth Fest 2016) written and directed by FollowSpot Productions at the Kalk Bay Theatre. For the role of Betty in Bar None, she was nominated for a Fleur du Cap Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical or Music Theatre Show. Lucy is also a freelance voice artist/actress and has appeared in a variety of commercials, series and film work. Highlights include performing in the Fugard Theatre’s Funny Girl where Lucy was the alternate lead, Fanny Brice, a role made famous by Barbara Streisand. She then played the role of Nurse in the play Shakespeare In Love, as well as Laura in Significant Other which was directed by Greg Karvellas. Most recently Lucy played the role of Pat in The Fugard’s production of Kinky Boots.
After graduating from the Waterfront Theatre School in 2008, Alex has performed in theatre productions such as Shakespeare at Maynardville (Taming of the Shrew and The Merchant of Venice), Stephen Sondheim’s Assassins which reopened the New Space Theatre, and The Great Gatsby at Spier. He also had the privilege to perform in the grand-scale opera Lost in the Stars, and Showboat which travelled to Paris in 2011 and the UK in 2014. Alex wrote and directed directed Absolucy, a sell-out one-woman cabaret at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown in 2011/2012. He was the Resident Director and understudy for the role of Brad Majors in the Fugard Theatre’s production of The Rocky Horror Show which played to full houses in 2013 and 2014. He also performed in the hit musical The Sound of Music in 2014 at Artscape, as well as Tiger Bay in 2017. More recently he played the dual role of Frank and Rick in FollowSpot Productions’ musical romance Bar None at the Kalk Bay Theatre 2016 / 2019, and was cast in the sell-out show Bon Soir at the 2015 /2016 National Arts Festival. Alex has appeared in international films/mini series such as Jadotville, Tutankhamen, Origins, American Monster and The Last Post to name a few. Alex is also is part owner/producer at Lipsmac Productions, where their latest country cabaret Camp Carrawak had audience members in hysterics for most of 2016. He and his wife Lucy’s specialised duo singing act The Romantix has been wowing audiences with their stunning harmonies since 2017. 2018 / 2019 has been mostly theatre starting with a production of the play Fatal Attraction at Theatre On The Bay and at Montecasino where he played the role of Jimmy, followed by Alice In Wonderland and The Little Mermaid with Fred Abrahamse, the smash hit Shakespeare In Love at the Fugard Theatre directed by Greg Karvellas and The Boogie Is Gonna Get Ya with Ganarama productions at Artscape directed by Rafiek Mammon. 2019 Began with a production of The Little Mermaid, following that, Man Band at Kalk Bay Theatre. Most recently taking over as Resident Director on Kinky Boots at The Fugard in Cape Town.
