Set in the rural area of Ekupheleni, The Hymns of a Sparrow tells a story of Babu’Mngadi who is constantly faced with his neighbour’s cattle eating his crops. The story is told by young Simlindile who explains the matter how the cattle was later taken to the chief of Ekupheleni, and how Babu Mngadi faces his greatest challenge – that of losing both his wife and son before his very eyes. In The Hymns of a Sparrow, Simlindile talks the audience through Babu Mngadi’s healing process.
