Universal Black is a rap album that encompasses a wide spectrum of urban music. The sound ranges from 90s New York Boom Bap to Afro Beat and Kwaito. The hooks are meditative mantras, repeating an idea to the psyche of a human being. The lyrics are well thought and employ internal rhyme.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Obscure was birthed in 2006 in Cape Town after attending many hip hop gigs. He then started recording songs with friends. One of their songs, Underground Bound, was played on Headwarmaz on Bush Radio. He performed throughout the city wherever he could get a platform and in his hometown of King William’s Town.
In 2017, he dropped his EP, A Meeting of Equal Minds, on SoundCloud. This project was inspired by seeing the colonial legacy of South Africa and that black people do not own their story. He promoted the project through some Youtube videos. He released his debut album, Universal Black, late 2019. The concept behind this title was that we are all connected as black people irrespective of geographical location. He has been promoting this project.
