The core concepts of Mojo Afrika’s exhibition are ethics, compassion and morality. It explores “the distinction between the human and other species when it comes to profiting from them” (Braidotti 2013:63). It is meant to be honest and forthright. What exactly is it that grants certain species protection under law and denies others? The consensus answer seems to be the ability to be self-aware, feel pain, express joy and experience fear. In a word – sentience.
