Day Eight

Finding new forms to engage creatively from A – Z or in this case A – W, avatars to WhatsApp chats, are a feature of the vNAF. Eyal Gruss leads a hands-on jam where you can create your own deep fake avatar to use in Zoom or Facebook Live. The difference between reality and tech-generated virtual reality is increasingly tenuous and the tools to create it are easily available as the workshop reveals. Additional places for theatre to be staged have been unveiled during the lockdown and The Shopping Dead enters stage right on your mobile screen in WhatsApp. An ordinary day out shopping is interrupted by… dead people. Specifically written for the medium and enacted in GIFS, memes, text and voice notes, this is an occasion where being blue ticked may not be a bad thing. Not even traditional fairy tales are safe from the mores of social media and Mothers Grimm gives familiar characters Goldilocks, Cinderella and Snow White a modern twist in a family sitcom seen through the eyes of 11-year-old Goldi. New times call for new scripts and NAF has supported their development through workshops led by Twist Projects and ASSITEJ. Readings of new work created for adults and young people will be unveiled today.
