Craft Matters

A Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture Initiative

The Eastern Cape is home to many skilled artists and crafters. The diversity of products range from traditional items of Xhosa heritage to contemporary ceramics, clothing, beadwork, homeware and much more.

The COVID-19 pandemic has severely impacted our Eastern Cape crafters. “Craft Matters” is intended to revitalize the craft sector as a core part of sustaining livelihoods and rebuilding social cohesion in the province.

The Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture is setting up a pop-up shops in Gqeberha and Makhanda to support this valuable area. The initiative aims to provide crafters from around the province with a marketing platform to showcase their beautiful and authentic hand-made products.
