EASTERN CAPE SHOWCASE
FINGO FESTIVAL
FINGO FESTIVAL
Fingo Festival is happy to bring back our iZodlala Nathi children’s program that seeks to explore the transformative power of the arts with the kids through mural painting exercises, outdoor games, facepainting, storytelling and poetry.
This year’s program is in honour of Mama Nomathemba Tana, who is one of Makhanda’s finest visual artists, alongside her recently-deceased daughter, Siphokazi Tana, who was one of leading supporters of the Saraah Baartman District’s creative industries and local economy.
We invite the community, especially the kids, to join us as we remember these two women as arts and social justice advocates. We seek to imprint this legacy on the cityscape through a mural, as we believe that a mural is geared towards young people’s modes of interaction. By grabbing their visual attention, we can introduce these women’s work to improve the plight of Eastern Cape art practitioners. This is
so that the kids see how their art must speak to their condition.
