About the Hoppers
Published on 26 June 2023
Makhanda may seem tiny, but walking from one venue to another between shows can be tricky with so much to see.
With the assistance of Standard Bank and Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism, the National Arts Festival provides transportation to various locations across the Festival – and they’re absolutely free.
Hoppers are easily accessible from various pickup points, and the venue map indicates where you can hop on and hop off. There is a blue route and a red route hopper. The Red Hopper covers the route from the Monument down to the Rhodes Theatre complex and runs from 09:00-22:30. The Blue Hopper covers most of the central town venues and runs from 10:00-19:00.
Every hopper is identifiable by a red or blue sticker that will determine the route it takes. You can also look for the boards marked with an “H” across town. That is where your hopper will pick you up and drop you off.
