Sign up for E Cape Schools’ Fest on the Road
Published on 14 August 2019
The Eastern Cape Schools’ Fest on the Road will be held on 17 and 18 September in Makhanda (formerly Grahamstown). To whet your appetite, please have a look through some of the productions and workshops that have been confirmed already.
- Sign up as soon as possible by filling in the short registration form here.
For R380 per delegate, your learners will get great value for money: a keynote address, five productions, four workshops and a lecture – plus lunch and snacks on both days. Theatre productions include Rhodes University’s Standard Bank Ovation Award-winning production from 2018, SEEING RED, and multi-award-winning Masixole Heshu’s culturally relevant DANCING WITH THE DEAD. Matthew Ribnik will be here to showcase his one-man skills in the hilarious physical comedy, HOOT. PE’s Finest Dance Crew intend to ignite the creative juices with some seriously slick hip hop dance routines as well as workshops; and Clique Claq, winner of a 2019 Ovation Award at NAF, will be spreading the love with their tunes in a closing performance of note.
About 16 workshops will be on offer – learners will be able to choose from creative writing, pantsula dance, improv, script writing, hip hop, art-duino, collaborative music making, poetry and rap, street dance, storytelling, comedy, vocal aerobics, and more! Shaking up Shakespeare is a fabulously entertaining lecture presented by Matthew Ribnick on coming to grips with the Bard.
For the moment, we are keeping our keynote speaker under wraps, but he will be sure to have the students (and teachers) in stitches. And, as an added extra, for those learners that will be in Makhanda overnight, or who are at local schools, we are offering special evening screenings of a choice of productions from the Royal Shakespeare Company on 17 September.
At the end of the two days, your learners will have been stretched in a couple of directions and we hope will be bubbling with creativity. We limit numbers because of workshop spaces, so please book early. As soon as you have registered your school, you will be sent the workshop list so that they can make their selections.
