Mwana KuChema (direct translation – A baby is crying) is written and directed by Linda Wa Ka Shabangu and performed by Motshabi Ramafikeng.
It tells the story of a child’s journey of self-discovery navigating the mysteries of a family’s secret. It’s a quest to reconnect with our genetic history within time and space (past/present/future). It is a story about forgiveness and searching for healing in ourselves, in our society, in our communities, and in our homes.
The play questions the illnesses of living in a deteriorating environment, how humanity battles to co-exist with our daily lives in the townships and has strong observations about the broken family structures, self-destruction and parental love/guidance in black communities.
