Meet Nkosinathi Maki, a stand-up comedian who has just moved from the Eastern Cape to an affluent suburb in Cape Town with his four-year-old son, Thano. He is trying to balance his career, his parenting and his love life in a new and unfamiliar environment. He also faces some unexpected challenges when he starts to question his sexuality and his political views. Along the way, he meets some quirky and colorful characters who who help him or hinder him in his journey of self-discovery. Stand Up and Stand Out.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Nkosinathi Maki is a renowned South African stand-up comedian, MC, and host. He has been nominated twice for the Savanna Comics Choice Awards in 2023 and was the winner of the Jive Funny Festival Championship in 2022. Nkosinathi has also won the award for Best Solo Show at The National Arts Festival in 2019 for his exceptional performance.

Nkosinathi Maki is not just a talented of several comedy shows. He is the creator of the Mandela Bay Comedy Festival and has been organizing comedy shows since he started performing in 2011. Initially, he organized weekly shows around Cape Town, with three shows per week. Eventually, Nkosinathi moved on to producing his own one-man shows, which took place in various notable venues across South Africa.

Some of Nkosinathi’s productions include “Gluten Free,” “MOVING TO JOBURG,” “School Boy,” and the award-winning “How To Be a Politician in South Africa.” He is a regular support act at top comedy clubs like Parkers Comedy Club, Goliath and Goliath Comedy Club, POP-ART, The Cape Town Comedy Club, and The Durban Comedy Week.

Nkosinathi Maki is a remarkable comedian and producer who has left an indelible mark on the South African comedy circuit. He is currently running the best weekly Wednesday comedy show in all of Cape Town at the Armchair Pub in Observatory lower main road. Furthermore, he has created an annual comedy festival in Port Elizabeth, where it all began for him. Nathi Comedy events are an essential part of the South African comedy industry, and Nkosinathi is dedicated to making comedy more accessible to young South Africans.
