The National Arts Festival approached industry designer and head of the Rhodes University Theatre Wardrobe to design articles and accessories using waste materials from the Festival’s marketing campaigns.

The project was to produce working patterns and training for cutters and seamstresses who would then be able to manufacture merchandise for the 2021 National arts Festival within their communities with equipment and materials provided by the Festival. The hope was to provide skills training and a potential income stream for a community burdened with unemployment and a scarcity of economic opportunities.
