vNAF2020: FAQs

HOW TO NAVIGATE vNAF2020

BROWSING SHOWS

How do I browse shows?

Click on the What’s On link in the top menu and choose where you’d like to go –
The Festival Programme lists all the curated events and the Standard Bank Jazz Festival events and provides navigation by genre or category as well.
The What’s On menu also provides links to the vFringe programme, Virtual Green, the Webinars, Exhibitions and vFringe Visual Art Galleries.

Until when can I watch shows? Is my Festival or Jazz Pass still valid?

All events are available until 31 July 2020. Festival and Jazz Passes purchased prior to 16 July will have expired but you can purchase individual tickets to shows. You can also buy a Jazz Pass to watch the all the events on the Standard Bank Jazz Festival programme.

PASSES AND TICKETS

How do I watch curated shows?

You can purchase tickets to individual curated and vFringe events by simply clicking on the BUY TICKETS button on the show pages and adding the items to your basket. Once you’ve added all the items you’d like to watch, you can checkout and complete the transaction. You will be able to pay for your tickets with your credit or debit card, Snapscan or instant EFT through PayGate. Confirmation of your order, which lists your shows, will be emailed to you once your transaction is completed. You will be able to access the shows until midnight on 31 July 2020.

What is a Jazz Pass?

A Jazz Pass costs R500 and allows a purchaser access to all events on the 2020 Standard Bank Jazz Festival (that’s 17 jazz shows for just R500!). Passes purchased before 16 July have expired but customers can still take advantage of this awesome offer by buying a pass – events will be available until 31 July 2020.

Are there free events?

Yes! Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, a lot of content on the Festival programme is free to view:  all Creativate events, all workshops and webinars, all exhibitions, the Virtual Green market place and the vFringe Visual Art Galleries. Explore our website – there are many delights to uncover.

How do I watch shows on the vFringe?

The vFringe are video on demand shows, so can be watched at any time that suits you. All shows on the vFringe are sold as individual tickets. 90% of the proceeds of these tickets go to the artists themselves. Browse the vFringe event pages, choose what you want to see, add the shows to your basket by clicking the ‘Buy Ticket’ button. Checkout and you’ll receive a confirmation email. Go to the event page and click on the play icon on the video window. (Make sure you are logged in to the site.)

WATCHING SHOWS

How do I watch shows?

Once you’ve paid, you’ll receive an email with a list of what you’ve booked. You can also see your shows on the My Show page (link in top menu). You need to be logged in to access this page.

Click through to any event page to start watching. Scroll down to the video window and select the ‘play video’ icon, and it will play. If you haven’t paid for it, it won’t.

The video stops playing after 10 seconds and tells me I need a ticket – but I have already bought one!

You need to be logged in to watch the shows you have bought or make use of your Jazz Pass. Once you’ve done a transaction, you’ll be automatically logged in to the site. But if you happen to get logged out, or switch devices, you will need to log in again.

What must I do if the video won’t play?

Most often, all it takes is a reload of the page. If you continue to get an error message on your video, or a page error, the best thing to do is to clear your cache. You can find this in the History tab of your browser. Close your browser and start again. This should solve the problem. (You have a total of five views per video purchased).

My internet connection is slow. Can I reduce the quality of streamed video?

Yes, you can: on the video player window, choose the settings icon (*) and select a lower-res option (just like on YouTube).

My battery died mid-performance. What do I do now?

You get a total of FIVE views per show. If your battery dies, there’s loadshedding or something else interrupts you, you can click on the link and watch from the beginning again.

Oh no! I missed a workshop. Is it still available to view?

Yes, the majority of  live webinars and workshops were recorded, so you can catch them on demand after they first screen. All the content on the site will be available to view from the day it becomes available until 31 July 2020.

How do I watch shows on my smart TV?

The best thing to do is watch through your browser on your smart TV.  Make sure you are logged in to your Festival account. You can also do this from your phone: select full screen view and cast to AppleTV or ChromeCast.

How much data do I need to watch shows?

We have tried as hard as possible to make our content as data-friendly as possible without compromising the work. As an estimate: one hour of streamed content = 1 GB.
