About the panel

Melanie Trapman, Moon and Son Clothing – Melanie and her husband create, produce, and market handcrafted clothing under their brand name, Moon and Son Clothing. They have traded at the National Arts Festival for 30 years.

Yandiswa Sodaba – Sector Specialist for Creative Industries : Eastern Cape Development Corporation. Yandiswa is responsible for managing the creative industries programme which supports craft, visual arts and design SMMEs in the Eastern Cape. She has more than 20 years of experience in the creative sector accumulated from working for various institutions throughout the country.

Fran Stewart: Market Development Programme Manager at the Craft + Design Institute – Fran has been with the CDI for 10 years and is a passionate advocate of South African craft and design. In her role at the CDI she is constantly looking to build new connections and develop strategic projects that will assist businesses and open up market access opportunities.Fran has run her own creative businesses, managed an export logistics team and headed up an advertising agency. She holds a degree in Economics and a diploma in International Trade. Supporting the growth and development of creative businesses is what drives and motivates her daily.

Raihana Govender, Founder, Mors Designs – Mors, meaning ‘waste’ in Afrikaans, is an up-cycle initiative that takes discarded tyre tubes and transforms them into covetable products. Employing previously disadvantaged women and refugees, Mors Founder, Raihana Govender, gives these artisans the opportunity to become self-sufficient while also relaying an important message about sustainability.
