047 is the area code for Mthatha in Eastern Cape, South Africa and also the name of a talented group that is dynamically changing the musical landscape in South Africa. The three members; Ncgali Nundu, Lihle Baleni and Sihle Mdaga from uMthatha got together in 2013 after meeting at a talent show, Ngqali and Lihle were in a group and Sihle was in another group also competing at the event, a situation where they ended up locked in a hall found them singing together and created a solid friendship that then developed into the 047 we and love today. They recorded demos together and performed at talent shows and local concerts, one of their demos ended up in the ear of AfroPop star Vusi Nova who later featured in the breakout single titled Ubuhle. 047 have built a very strong foundation and fanbase for themselves to take their music and brand to the world.

047 have come a long way since their talent show days, their passion for music has kept them together for 10 years. They got their big break in 2017 with the release of their debut single titled Ubuhle which featured award-winning AfroSoul musician, Vusi Nova. The song topped national radio charts and got them performing on stages across the country. They followed up the success of this song with the release of their debut album titled Wena Ungowami in May 2018 which had hit songs Kumnandi and Wena Ungowami. In 2019, they were invited to perform at the Grahamtown’s National Arts Festival where they were awarded with the Standard Bank Standard Ovation Award. They also released the single Sabelani & Helele in that same year. In 2021 with another hit single titled Akasemhle with Vusi Nova, after a 2-year COVID pandemic forced hiatus. In 2022 they came back full force releasing a cover of the classic song by Ricardo & Friends, I Love You Daddy and a 8-Track EP titled Thula Ndivile.
