Dakie Vuka Emaqandeni

Theatre / Princess Alice

Can you sense something is socially wrong in our country?

This is your wake-up call, to crack & break the shell of ignorance clouding your thoughts and perspectives. It is time to identify and challenge our destructive perspectives, so we can awaken from our ignorance and rise up to our potential to build a better tomorrow for all.

Two brothers shed light on their daily life challenges bringing awareness to the destructive nature of the internal and external circumstances imposed on them and their community. This theatre production is an artistic exploration, which investigates social imbalances, more specifically, the destructive intentions and ideologies of both South African authorities and community members.

Dakie Vuka Emaqandeni means: Those clouded in their mind, wake yourself up from your own ignorance and rise to your potential.

This devised theatre production is funded by the National Arts Council and is part of the Ahumba: Community Theatre Development Project, which explores themes related to the quality of education, inner conflict, poverty and destructive perspectives.
