Guitarist Mageshen Naidoo hails from Chatsworth and began his impressive musical education in Durban at UKZN, where he received his BMus and MMus in Jazz, before moving to the US on a Fulbright for a masters and doctorate in jazz guitar performance at USC in Los Angeles. He has taught at UKZN and UNISA and is now Associate Professor at the University of Pretoria and has performed in the USA, the UK, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Canada and Mexico and all over South Africa, with a variety of recordings to his name. He collaborates here with Swiss bassist and composer Eva Kess, born in Berlin-Schöneberg, who started her musical career in Porto Alegre in Brazil as a dancer. Back in Europe she continued as a classical pianist and dancer in Bern and then discovered the double bass, leading to performances around Europe on the bass. She has a master’s in composition from the University of Arts in Bern and has spent some time in the music scene in New York City.
