NgoMa Technologies | Instrument Building Workshop

Music  /  Workshop / The Black Power Station

NgoMa Technologies: Indigenous Music Instruments Workshop, siphila ngokuphefumlelana: Breath, Sound and Singing Together as Collective Healing. Indigenous Music Instruments are spiritual technologies that are designed to activate various energy centers in the human body, and also open gateways for imagination, multidimensional travel and communication. Since spirit is brought into the physical dimension through vibration/ sound/ voice/ breath, for this workshop we intend to guide participants in a process of honouring their voice (uniqueness) through making their own instruments, umtshingo overtone flute & bamboo pan flutes, as well as uhadi and makhweyane calabash bows. This process will allow each participant to create an instrument that best resonates with them as these particular instruments affect the breath and the heart, bringing about relaxation, clarity and healing. Participants will also learn the basic principles of playing the instruments as well as be encouraged through active listening to find their own songs and improvise as small groups using the instruments they just made.
