Outeniqua (George) & Stirling (East London)

Jazz  /  Music / Dsg Auditorium

The Jazz Band at Outeniqua High was established in 2017 by Lynette Petersen and has maintained a central emphasis on teaching students the fundamentals of jazz, while providing the chance to practice improvisation and to express themselves freely. The group is well known along the Garden Route and has performed self-composed music at festivals like MosJazz, KKNK, Artscape Youth Jazz, amongst others.
Stirling High’s Jazz Band was formed by Alan Webster 31 years ago and has performed in 23 towns around the country, with nearly 80 students selected to the national band over the years. The band has also toured internationally to Zimbabwe, Namibia, Holland, Germany and Britain, and is proud of the number of past members who are still active in South African jazz. The band’s repertoire consists mainly of interesting arrangements of classic charts in a standard big band format.
