This production revolves around Shadrak, an angry and vocal boy. His anger stems from his upbringing. His single mother raised Shadrack, while his ex-freedom-fighter father worked in the mines in Johannesburg and returned home when Shadrack was an adolescent. The play focuses on the rivalry between Shadrack and his parents, the absence of Shadrack’s father from his life, the consequences of bad friends, the impact of life before 1994, and destabilised black communities.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
As the hopeful youth of South Africa, we have realised how our country has experienced vast growth in The Cultural and Creative Industries over the past few years, especially in the country’s metro cities such as Durban, Johannesburg, and Cape Town. However, we feel that a lot still needs to be done to uplift the standard of these industries, in Limpopo Province.
Rural Performers Incubator (RuPI) is a Department of Sports Arts and Culture (DSAC) funded project through the National Arts Council (NAC) and the Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme (PESP).
The project works to develop an audience for rural creative and cultural industries by offering valuable and exclusive art services to communities and institutions. The incubator encourages and promotes talent, youth, and community excellence for performers in rural areas of Limpopo, South Africa. Shadrack is one of the performance pieces that features artists from the Incubator.
