ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Verity Productions is a theatre production company which aims to be authentic in every piece it creates. According to the Oxford Dictionary, “it is a belief or principle about life that is accepted as true.” The production company was officially created in May 2022 and has since gone on to showcase its first production, Whistleblowers at The AFDA Experimental Festival. Here it gathered momentum and powerful audience responses. Following that, the show journeyed to the National Arts Festival (NAF), and the message was well received.

Not only was it the buzz at NAF and according to many arts journalists among the top choices at NAF, the show also picked up a coveted Standard Bank Silver Ovation Award. Since then,
Whistleblowers has gone on to perform at the Market Theatre Laboratory 23-24 July, starting a Gauteng Schools’ Tour 2-3 August, and at the Hilton Arts Festival in September. A full Gauteng and KZN Schools’ tour is on the cards for 2023. Whistleblowers then returned to AFDA Johannesburg for its Graduation Festival in November, where Verity Productions premiered its new work Fronted. Furthermore, the Whistleblowers recently returned from a European tour where the production went to the Netherlands and received critics theatre choice, from Marijn Lems in Rotterdam, for a work that showcases ‘The healing power of theatre’.

Phindiwe Qakoshe
My name is Phindiwe Qakoshe, I am 21 years of age. I am a Xhosa girl who comes from the city of circles, also known as Welkom in the Free State. I am currently completing my Honours degree in live performance at AFDA Johannesburg. I am a 4 time award winning actress who is passionate about acting and I wake up every day feeling like I am called for this. Every character I play gives me the opportunity to see life from a different perspective. Performing for me is creating, living and healing from life. Storytelling is another way to raise awareness, heal and give meaning to people and that is what I live for … it’s not easy but I am loving every step of it. Furthermore, apart from performing – I relish playing hockey and I am a poet who is still finding her wings and would love to fly with my poetry one day.
